BEL AIR, Md. (Mar. 25, 2017)- Junior
Carolyn Clites (Hasbrouck Heights, N.J. / Hasbrouck Heights) went 5-for-7 with five RBI's, five runs scored and one double as the Centenary University softball team swept a doubleheader with Notre Dame of Maryland University at Harford Community College on Saturday evening. The Cyclones improve to 4-10 overall and 2-0 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference, while the Gators fall to 1-8-1 overall and 0-2 in the CSAC.
GAME 1: Centenary 14, Notre Dame (MD) 5 (5 Inn.)
Freshman
Juli Wright (Colonia, N.J. / Colonia) went 3-for-4 with four RBI's and two runs scored, while Clites went 2-for-3 with three RBI's and three runs scored as the Cyclones totaled a season-high 14 runs on 13 hits in the game one victory.
Centenary took a 6-0 lead in the top of the first after scoring six runs on six hits and two errors, including RBI's from Wright, Clites and senior
Jamie Weingarten (Kendall Park, N.J. / South Brunswick). NDM recovered three runs on four hits in the bottom of the second to cut the lead to 6-3, but the Cyclones eventually mercy ruled the Gators with a combined eight runs in the fourth and fifth innings.
In the fourth, Centenary collected four runs on five hits, including a two RBI double from junior
Sammie Darling (Succasunna, N.J. / Roxbury), which brought home Clites and junior
Ashley Eisenstein (Freehold, N.J. / Freehold Township), and an RBI single from Wright to score Darling. In the fifth, Wright added her fourth RBI of the afternoon, while junior
Raychel Piserchia (Lyndhurst, N.J. / Queen of Peace) collected an RBI during an error by the second baseman that allowed Wright to score.
Freshman
Jessica Hewitt (Waretown, N.J. / Southern Regional) earned her first career victory with four strikeouts in just three innings.

Justine Stefura (Port Reading, N.J. / WoodBridge) went 3-for-4 with three RBI's and three runs scored, while Clites went 3-for-4 with two RBI's and two runs scored as the Cyclones recovered from an early 3-1 deficit to mercy rule the Gators in the night cap. Â
Notre Dame took a 3-1 advantage in the second inning after three straight batters recorded RBI's. Centenary recovered a run in the third, but still trailed 3-2 entering the fourth inning. In the fourth, the Cyclones scored three runs on five hits, including RBI's singles from Stefura and Darling.
The Cyclones weren't finished as they exploded for an even bigger inning in the fifth with seven runs on five hits, including two RBI's apiece from Stefura, Eisenstein and Hewitt. Piserchia added the final run of the night when she singled to right field to score Hewitt.
Darling improved to 3-4 overall after striking out four batters in 5.0 innings pitched.
