Baseball Rolls Over CCNY in Series Opener

ALLAMUCHY, N.J. (Mar. 11, 2016)- Sophomore John Tierney (West Milford, N.J. / West Milford) went 3-for-3 with three runs scored and a run batted in, as the Centenary College baseball team posted another double digit performance in the 14-2 series opening victory over CCNY. The Cyclones improve to 3-3 overall, while the Beavers remain winless at 0-12.

Centenary did a majority of their damage in the third inning with seven runs on only three hits. CCNY pitcher Jeffrey Diaz totaled six of his nine walks in the inning, which the Cyclones capitalized on with aggressiveness on the base paths. Diaz threw six wild pitches in the inning that put Centenary in scoring position multiple times.

Centenary extended on their 9-0 advantage in the seventh with five runs on four hits, including a two RBI single from sophomore Tim Maxwell (Glen Head, NY / North Shore) that scored senior Nick Koffel (Perkiomenville, Pa. / Perkiomen Valley) and freshman Ryan Jasiecki (Ledgewood, N.J. / Roxbury). Centenary held a 14-0 lead, when the Beavers were able to take two runs in the bottom of the eighth on back-to-back RBI's.

Koffel didn't record a hit but made up for it with two runs scored, two stolen bases and two walks. Senior Ryan Kanner (Jackson, N.J. / Jackson Memorial), besides Maxwell, was the only other Cyclone to post multiple RBI's in the game. Michael Siklas led the way for the Beavers, going 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI.  Sophomore James Graziani (Martinsville, N.J. / Bridgewater – Raritan) struck out three batters and improved to 1-2, while Diaz took the loss and falls to 0-3.

Head Coach Scott Kushner and the Cyclones will return to action tomorrow, Sat. Mar. 12, hosting CCNY in a doubleheader beginning at 12:00 p.m.
