Warne Ties Career-High as Men’s Soccer Falls to #4 Messiah in Opening Round of NCAA Tournament


GRANTHAM, Pa. (Nov. 12, 2016)- Sophomore Devon Warne (Belvidere, N.J. / Belvidere) tied a career-high with 13 saves as the Centenary University men's soccer team ended their season with a 6-0 loss to #4 Messiah College in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament at Shoemaker Field on Saturday evening.

Will Cochran and Zach Bosshard both scored two goals for the Falcons who improve to 18-0-3 and will await the winner of tonight's match between Montclair State University and Christopher Newport University. Junior Justin White (Minehill, N.J. / Dover) and sophomore Josh Weiss (Hackettstown, N.J. / Hackettstown) both tallied a shot for the Cyclones who finish the season at 13-6-1.

The #4 Falcons scored three unanswered goals and edged the Cyclones, 21-1 on shots in the opening stanza. Messiah held a 3-0 lead at halftime.
Messiah extended their lead to 6-0 in the second half, as Cochran netted two goals within a minute of each another and Bosshard scored his second goal of the evening.

The Falcons edged the Cyclones on shots (41-2), shots on goal (19-0) and corner kicks (12-0). Nick West, David Alejos, Jacob Bender, Colby Thomas, and Shay Quintin each assisted on five of the six goals.

Despite the loss, Head Coach Keith O'Connor recorded a new single season record for wins in a season with 13. The previous mark was 12 wins set by the 2013 and 2014 squads.
