SCRANTON, Pa. (Jan. 30, 2016) - On Saturday afternoon, the Centenary College women's basketball team took a tough 69-54 loss to the undefeated Pacers of Marywood University, which now drops their record to 6-4 in the CSAC.
The Cyclones were down early in this one, as Marywood opened the game on a 7-2 run. Centenary traded baskets with Marywood for the rest of the first quarter and headed into the second quarter trailing, 15-9. Centenary battled back several times in the second quarter and pulled the Pacers lead to within three points twice, but Marywood held strong and closed the half on a 8-3 run and a held a 32-24 halftime advantage.
Centenary opened the second half on a 12-3 run, which allowed the Cyclones to get to within a point, on the heels of a three-ball from senior
Ally Fugnitti (Wood-Ridge, N.J. / Wood-Ridge). Catie Nealon of Marywood responded seconds later with a three-pointer of her own and from that point on, Marywood didn't give the Cyclones another chance. Marywood took a 10-point lead into the final quarter and then extended their advantage to 15 points for the remainder of the contest.
Fugnitti led the Cyclones with 15 points, while junior
Mallory George (Berkeley Heights, N.J. / Governor Livingston) was just two rebounds shy of a double-double, finishing with 12 points and eight rebounds.
Sophomore
Alexis Wilson (Bayonne, N.J. / Marist) posted seven points, sophomore
Rachel Edwards (Phillipsburg, N.J. / Phillipsburg) scored six points and junior
Kelsey Barofski (White Township, N.J. / Belvidere) rounded out the Cyclones with five points herself.
