Men’s Basketball Falls Short Against Cabrini

RADNOR, Pa. (Jan. 9, 2016)- Senior Anthony Bailey (Florida, N.Y. / SS Seward) collected his second double-double in three games with 16 points and 11 rebounds as the Centenary College men's basketball team fell short in the 70-64 loss to Cabrini College.

Tyheim Monroe finished with 14 points and 18 rebounds for the Cavaliers who improve to 8-5 overall and 4-1 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference. Sophomore Rashaan Spencer (Hackettstown, N.J. / Mount Olive) scored 22 points for the Cyclones who finished with 6-5 overall and 4-1 in the CSAC.

The Cavaliers opened the second half on a 14-5 run, that allowed Cabrini to take their largest lead of the game at 51-37 with 14:46 remaining. Centenary would chip their way back into the game from the free throw line, as the Cyclones went 15-for-20 in the second half.  Spencer and Bailey went a combined 11-for-12 from the free throw line, including Spencer going a perfect 7-for-7.

Centenary would almost erase the 14 point deficit, as the Cavaliers held a 65-61 lead with 1:15 remaining. Spencer came away with a big steal and completed a three point play to trail by just one point at 65-64 with 37 seconds remaining. Cabrini proved to be clutch down the stretch, as they went 4-for-4 from the charity stripe to seal the victory.

Sophomore Hamp Smith (Allentown, Pa. / William Allen) went 6-for-7 from the free throw line to finish with nine points, three rebounds and two steals. Jair Green finished with 14 points, eight rebounds and three blocks for the Cavaliers. Green finished with a game-high four offensive boards, as Cabrini scored 11 second chance points off 16 offensive rebounds.
