Hackettstown, NJ – The Centenary softball team closed out their regular season with a pair of wins against Drew University this afternoon. With the wins, the Cyclones now stand at an even 19-19 overall, while the Rangers fall to 9-27 on the year.
Centenary 7, Drew 5In game one Drew jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning, but the Cyclones would respond with one run in the bottom of the first after
Becca Raymond doubled to center to score
Carolyn Clites who earned her way on with a single.
Trailing 3-1 heading into the third, Centenary pushed four runs across after pair of hits to regain the lead 5-3.
Centenary would tack two more in the fifth courtesy of
Erin Walsh who sent a two-run shot over the center field fence for the 7-3 advantage.
In the top of the sixth, Drew strung together four hits to plate two runs closing the four-run gap, but were unable to push any more runs across as Centenary took game one 7-5.
Carolyn Clites collected a pair of hits, while
Erin Walsh and
Becca Raymond each added a hit driving in a combined four runs.
Sammie Darling earned the win in the circle with five innings pitched giving up three runs off eight hits and striking out one.
Centenary 5, Drew 4In game two, Drew wasted no time once again jumping ahead of the Cyclones with a 2-0 lead. Centenary answered right back with three of their own after
Erin Walsh cleared the bags with her second homerun of the day (3-2).
Two innings later,
Heather Passaro started things off with a triple to center before
Becca Raymond singled to center for the RBI and the two-run cushion (4-2).
The Rangers continued to battle scoring a run in the fourth after belting out three hits, but the Cyclones would get that run back in the bottom of the sixth when Passaro's single scored
Samantha Belmonte who also reached on a single (5-3).
With the Rangers down to their final at bat, two consecutive singles put runners in scoring position as a fly out would allow one run to score. A double to center would further complicate things, but the Cyclones closed out inning as the Rangers left the tying run stranded.
Becca Raymond led the offense at the plate going a perfect 3-for-3 driving in one run, while
Jamie Weingarten was also perfect hitting 2-for-2. Walsh ended the day with two homeruns and five RBI's.
Kylie Morgan-Polefka threw a complete game allowing four runs off four hits while striking out one.
What's Next?Centenary will enter the CSAC Tournament as the #3 seed to face #6 Gwynedd Mercy at home on April 29
th @ 3pm.
