Hackettstown, NJ – The Centenary College (0-1) women's lacrosse team opened their season with a 10-5 loss at the hands of Wesley College (2-1) this afternoon.
The Cyclones found themselves down 3-0 midway through the first half but
Carlie Schmitt put Centenary on the board netting a shot off a pass from
Devin Sutko. Wesley would tack on two more goals, while Schmitt would keep the Cyclones in the game scoring her second goal to end the first half.
Trailing 5-2 after the break, Centenary's
Devin Sutko would fire a shot and net her first goal of the season. Wesley however, would break open the game scoring four consecutive goals to put the Wolverines ahead 9-3. Both teams would tally one more goal before the end of the final period.
Schmitt led the Cyclones with a hat trick (three goals), while Sutko and
Abby Voelkner each netted a goal. Sutko also dished out two assists this afternoon, while
Kristen Rabenstein picked up 13 ground balls and caused five turnovers.
Wesley had three players who finished the game with two goals, while Rylee Gould led the way including three assists for five points.
Centenary will begin conference play as they visit Keystone College March 11
th @ 4pm.
