Baseball Picks Up a Pair of Wins Against Lehman

Hackettstown, NJ – The Centenary College baseball team picked up a pair of wins this afternoon defeating Lehman College 11-5, 9-2.  With the win, the Cyclones are off to their best start since 2005 improving to an overall record of 3-0, while Lehman drops to 0-2.

Centenary 11, Lehman 5
Centenary got on the board in the bottom of the first thanks to a single to center field by senior third baseman Kevin Litus.  The hit sent in second baseman, Nick Daniele and centerfielder Joe Forcellini.

Lehman would get one run back in the top of the second but Centenary answered back with two more plus another three in the bottom of the third for a 7-1 advantage.  Freshman John Tierney and sophomore Sal Smith were responsible for the three extra runs after both homered to left field.

In the top of the fourth, Lehman would rally in four runs to get within two (7-5).  After a scoreless fifth, Centenary added some insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth registering four hits and four runs.

Tierney finished the game 3-for-4 with 3 RBI's, while Ryan Caparoni also finished 3-for-4 with one RBI.  Kevin Litus, Joe Forcellini and Smith finished the game with two hits each.

Centenary pitcher Danny Derner walked away with the win giving up only one hit and striking out four.

Matthew Brown suffered the loss for Lehman, allowing seven runs on seven hits with two strikeouts.

Centenary 9, Lehman 2
Lehman opened the scoring in the top of the second after Danny Rodriguez hit an RBI triple to right field.  The Cyclones quickly regained control posting back-to-back four-run innings for an 8-1 lead heading into the fifth.

In the bottom of the third, Kevin Litus stepped up to the plate and hit a single to center field knocking in two RBI's and eventually scoring off a grounder by Ryan Kanner.  The Cyclones would do the same in the fourth frame recording three hits and four runs, led by Litus's two-RBI triple to left and Daniele's RBI single to right.

Centenary would tack on one more run in the fifth for a 9-1 advantage when Ryan Caparoni doubled to right with two outs sending home teammate, Joe Forcellini
Lehman would break the scoreless streak in the sixth with a run, but pitcher Madison Kimball narrowly escaped the inning with two outs and bases loaded by striking out Lehman's Carlos Alcantara.

Centenary's Justin Young earned the win, allowing just one run, one hit and striking out three in 4.1 innings.

Litus led the Cyclones going 4-for-6 with six RBI's on the day, while Ryan Caparoni added two hits and two RBI's in the win.

The Cyclones looks to keep their momentum going as they open conference play hosting Neumann University Friday March 13th @ 330pm at Diamond Nation.
