Goleman Makes 10 Saves as Men’s Soccer Closes Season with loss in ECAC Tournament

NEWARK, N.J. (Nov. 11, 2015) – Senior Jesse Goleman (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Taylor Allderdice) made 10 saves as the Centenary College men's soccer team closed the 2015 season with a 5-1 loss to the Scarlet Raiders of Rutgers-Newark in the Quarterfinals of the ECAC Tournament.

The Scarlet Raiders improved to 14-7-1 overall and will face Drew University on Saturday in the ECAC semifinals, while the Cyclones finish the season at 11-9.

The first 20 minutes remained quiet with the Cyclones attempting two shots. After Goleman made a huge save off a header by Hubert Dul, the Scarlet Raiders earned a corner and took advantage by nailing a high arching goal just outside the 18 yard box to take a 1-0 lead.
Centenary had another opportunity just a few minutes later, as junior Kevin Brix (Monroe Township, N.J. / Monroe Township) had a header sail just over the crossbar. The Scarlet Raiders maintained the 1-0 lead at halftime. Goleman recorded seven out of 10 saves in the first stanza.

In the second half, Rutgers ballooned their lead to 5-0 before the Cyclones finally got on the scoreboard in  the 85th minute with sophomore Richy Castro (Landing, N.J. / Roxbury) scoring off a long thru ball from fellow classmate Justin White (Minehill, N.J. / Dover).
Brix and Castro combined for four shots, while Dul took a game-high seven shots for Rutgers. Goleman made his 10 saves in 68:42, while sophomore Devon Warne (Belvidere, N.J. / Belvidere) and senior Kyle Maris (Stewartsville, N.J. / Phillipsburg) played the final seven minutes.
