Cyclones Edged by the Pacers 68-63

Hackettstown, NJ – The Centenary College men's basketball team suffered a tough loss at the hands of Marywood University in this afternoon's Colonial States Athletic Conference game 68-63.  With the loss, the Cyclones drop to 7-7 overall and 4-3 in league play, while the Pacers improve to (9-6, 4-4 CSAC).

Centenary's Rashaan Spencer once again notched a career high with 23 points and three pointers made (7).  Spencer led all scorers this afternoon shooting 8-13 from the field and 7-9 from beyond the arc. 

The Pacers came out strong and jumping out to an early 6-0 lead but back to back three pointers from Spencer gave the Cyclones their first lead of the game (11-10) at the 11:44 mark. 

The first half saw four ties and four lead changes as the Pacers went into the break with a 35-33 advantage. 

The Pacers opened the second half with a 7-0 run for their largest lead of the game (33-42), but Spencer sank eight consecutive points to bring the Cyclones within two (44-42) with 15:16 to go.  Freshman Myles McLeod scored the go ahead three pointer to regain the lead (45-44). 

In a game that was up for grabs, neither team could hold on to the lead as there would be three more lead changes and ties throughout the rest of the half.   

With 4:38 to go in regulation, the Cyclones faced an eight point deficit but managed to spark a 9-1 run to tie the game at 60-60 with 2:16 left to go.  For a second time,
McLeod would give the Cyclones a two point lead after sinking a jumper (62-60) at the 1:39 mark.

There was a seventh and final tie (63-63) with just under a minute to go but the Pacers would seal the game from the stripe making 5-6 free throws in the final 30 seconds of regulation.

Centenary's Myles McLeod finished the day with his fourth double-double of the season with 12 points and 10 rebounds.  Senior, Andy Charles added 11 points and eight rebounds, while Anthony Bailey added seven points.  Zachary Duymich dished out six assists and took away four steals. 

Shane Kellaher led the Pacers with 19 points, while Alex Barr added 17 points in the win.

In a tight matchup, both teams shot 39% from the field and 43% from deep as both squads drained 10-23 three pointers. 

The Cyclones will hit the road to face Immaculata University in CSAC action Monday January 19th at 6:30pm
