Pena had a big week as he went 4-1 en route to a third-place finish at 141-pounds at the NCAA Mideast Regional Tournament. That allowed him to qualify for the NCAA National Championship.

On day one of the regional tournament, Pena started his day with a fall in 4:13 versus CJ Walz of Oswego State. Pena then battled Eli Sims of Brockport, who was ranked fourth in the regional rankings. Pena recorded a reversal with 29 seconds left in the third period to secure the 2-1 decision.

On day two of the regional, after suffering a tough loss in the semifinals, Pena bounced back with a pair of wins to take third in the 141-pound bracket.

Pena picked up a win by tech fall (24-8) over Michael Blando of Oneota State. He then followed that up with a win by major decision (10-0) over Ryan Burgbacher of SUNY Cortland. Burgbacher had been ranked sixth in the Mideast region.
